Four clubs of District 316J bring nutrition, and medical guidance to pregnant women in Nellore and Gudur
A Seemantham — the traditional baby shower observed across South India — marks the moment a community gathers around a pregnant woman. It is a gesture of welcome extended before a child has arrived. Four clubs of District 316J used the occasion to organise a nutrition and maternal health program for 111 pregnant women across Nellore and Gudur.
Lions Clubs of Nellore, Nellore Prathibha, Nellore Seva Priya and Gudur coordinated the initiative led by Zone Chairperson Lion I. Prasad. District Governor E. Gopalakrishna PMJF attended as Chief Guest.
Each participant received a nutrition kit assembled with foods that meet the nutritional needs of both mother and baby during pregnancy. Beyond the kits, medical experts conducted an awareness session covering prenatal nutrition, hygiene, safe pregnancy practices, and the importance of regular health check-ups — practical guidance delivered at a moment when women need it most.
The choice of a Seemantham was deliberate. Rather than introducing the program through a clinical setting, the clubs built on a familiar cultural tradition, surrounding practical medical guidance with the warmth and reassurance of community participation.
One hundred and eleven women returned home carrying more than nutrition kits. They carried practical knowledge, renewed confidence, and the reassurance that an entire community stood beside them.
The child was yet to arrive. The community already had.
