In a tribal settlement on the outskirts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, the hum of computers fills the brand new Computer Learning Centre and the smart classroom. There’s a palpable sense of excitement amongst the Adivasi children of Kottoor as digital education is all set to change the way they learn and explore. The initiative – part of the Gothrayanam Project, promoting rural development – was spearheaded by Leo District 318A.
The centre houses 15 computers in an air-conditioned lab, alongside a smart classroom where lessons come alive through interactive displays. What makes this setup special is its sustainability – a 5KW solar system powers the entire facility, making it truly self-reliant.
The Rs.13-lakh project received strong support from the state-owned enterprise KELTRON, which contributed Rs 7.75 lakhs through their CSR program. For the rural students, this means access to the same digital tools and resources as their urban peers.
On December 14, 2024, MLA Adv. G. Stephen inaugurated the centre. Guest of Honour ISRO scientist and KELTRON Group Chairman Shri N. Narayana Moorthy joined the celebration, along with PDG B. Ajayyakumar and Vice District Governors Jain C. Job and V. Anilkumar. Leo District President (2023-2024) Krishna Anand and his team beamed with pride as they saw months of planning transformed into reality. The project conceptualized and refined in 2023-2024 was implemented in 2024-2025.

Young hands now move confidently across keyboards, while curious eyes light up as lessons unfold on screen. This is what change looks like – one click, one lesson, one child at a time.
