Lions and Leos face global challenges with tenacity and shared purpose, because we believe we can make a difference in our communities through humanitarian efforts,” 2024–2025 LCIF Chairperson Dr. Patti Hill said. This simple, yet transformative belief compels Lions and Leos to undertake life-changing service and generously support the global foundation that expands service opportunities. Thanks to the incredible generosity of donors worldwide, LCIF exceeded its 2024-2025 stretch goal of US$80 million. These gifts offered community-driven solutions, bringing hope to those in need. Global Impact Stories
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and devastating earthquake in 2023, there has been a rise of chronic diseases in Türkiye, causing the percentage of dialysis patients to increase dramatically. District 118-Y Lions used a US$32,455 Matching Grant to purchase three new dialysis machines and a water treatment device to help increase the patient capacity at the Turkish Kidney Foundation. The foundation was treating 700 patients annually, and with these three machines, is expected to reach an additional 100 people.
At Groves Memorial Community Hospital in Fergus, Ontario, Canada, patients living with diabetes receive the knowledge and support they need to live healthier lives. Due to the growing population, the hospital was no longer able to accommodate the number of clients trying to receive treatment. To enhance the center’s resources and abilities, Lions donated over US$170,000 to the Groves Hospital as part of the Lions for Groves project, which included a US$50,000 Diabetes Grant from LCIF. Today, the center has two nurse offices, two dietician offices, access to a gym and a large consultation room for both individual patients and group activities.

In District 354G, Lions used a US$1,600 District and Club Community Impact Grant to make and distribute kimchi to elderly, disabled and underprivileged people in their community. While kimchi is a beloved staple in South Korea, it can be labor-intensive to make. Lions buy the ingredients and make it a community event, producing large quantities that can easily be shared with neighbors.
A local park in Tanabi, Brazil, was essentially forgotten and desperately needed a refresh. Leos used a US$1,985 Leo Service Grant to work with the city government and help with renovations. Taking an environmentally friendly approach, Leos planted native trees to attract birds and other fauna. Now, it is an inviting space in District LC 6 that approximately 3,000 people will enjoy.
On March 3, 2025, residents in Jakarta, Indonesia, experienced relentless rains that continued for days. Floodwaters exceeded three meters, submerging homes and displacing thousands of people. Within hours, Lions reached out to LCIF for assistance. Lions in District 307 A1 received a US$15,000 Emergency Grant to help their neighbors. They collected essentials, such as towels, toothbrushes and cleaning supplies. Lions then packed these essential items into 1,000 buckets that could be provided to flood victims. They also provided 2,000 people with rice to assist with immediate nutrition needs
Kasturba Medical College in Manipal, Udupi, India has long struggled with treatment abandonment and refusal, especially among low-income pediatric cancer patients who travel far for care. To make follow-up visits more pleasant and easy, LCIF awarded District 317-C a US$10,000 Childhood Cancer Grant to create a youth-friendly recreational area. The Lions renovated space near the oncology ward into two rooms: an educational room with books, a TV and learning materials, and a comfortable waiting room for children and families who often endure long journeys for treatment. Local donors also contributed books, toys and supplies.
Joyce Chikwama, a six-year-old girl from Kayumweyumwe, Mumbwa, Zambia, was born with a growth in her right eye that gradually became worse over the years. Due to financial constraints, her parents, like many others in Kayumweyumwe, struggled to afford treatment for their children. Fortunately, through partnership efforts with Lions Aid Zambia, Latter-day Saint Charities and LCIF, Joyce was referred to the University Teaching Hospital for care. She was diagnosed with an epidermal cyst and successfully underwent treatment and excision surgery. Since the procedure, Joyce is living a cheerful life and is able to enjoy her favorite activities like playing house, drawing and writing without any suffering.
The Lions of District 109-A used a US$38,391 Matching Grant to purchase diagnostic equipment for the National Hearing and Speech Institute of Iceland (HTI). HTI provides audiological and hearing services for children from birth to 18, including screening and monitoring. Due to insufficient funding, they were unable to offer audiometry services, resulting in a long waitlist. Since this purchase, it is estimated that nearly 1,000 children will benefit each year.
