Helping Students Stay the Course

Earning a place in college is one step. Finding the money to attend is another. For students from families with limited means, tuition, books and other expenses can put a diploma or degree beyond reach.

Since 2011, the District 3242E Lions Foundation has provided scholarships, grants and loans that helped students continue their education. The Foundation supports young people from rural and urban communities, especially those in rural areas and slum communities. Students can seek assistance for job-oriented diploma courses or degrees in arts, science, engineering and medicine at recognized colleges in India.

Deserving students are identified through a rigorous selection process that considers academic performance, financial need and social background. Assistance helps cover educational expenses, with scholarships continuing for three to five years.

Working with local communities helps the Foundation connect its support to students who need it most.

Each year, the Foundation awards scholarships to 100 students. More than 1,000 students have received scholarships since the program began, while over 100 students await scholarships each year.

Behind the figures are young people preparing to become engineers, doctors and professionals in other fields. Their ambitions differ, but they share a need for the means to study. By supporting them through their courses, the Lions of District 3242E give them a stronger chance of completing their education and gaining qualifications that could improve their employment prospects. Each student who moves forward carries that opportunity into a family and community.
