Until recently, families performing last rites at the Chaiti Village cremation ground near the Block Office in Kashipur, Uttarakhand, had little protection from the elements, whether during monsoon downpours or the scorching summer months. Recognizing the need, Kashipur City Lions Club, District 321B1, constructed a covered cremation facility during Lions Year 2025–2026 under the guidance of District Governor Dr. R.C. Mishra MJF.
The new structure provides a clean, sheltered space where families can perform Antim Sanskar with dignity. It is also equipped with seating and other basic amenities, offering practical support during the final rites.
The project continues a long tradition of service by Lions Clubs in Kashipur. Over the years, Lions Clubs of Kashipur City, Kashipur Diamond and Kashipur Greater have steadily developed the Moksh Dham Cremation Ghat, one of the city’s principal public cremation grounds, known locally as Ban Sagar. Their combined efforts have added weatherproof tin sheds, cement seating for mourners, lighting, drinking water facilities and ceiling fans. Kashipur Diamond Lions Club also constructed separate toilets for men and women. The clubs have continued to maintain and improve the site over time.
Today, the Moksh Dham Cremation Ghat serves as an important part of Kashipur’s civic infrastructure, used by families from across the community. The work at Chaiti Village extends that same philosophy of practical service to another cremation ground, ensuring that residents there also have access to basic facilities during life’s most difficult moments. A memorial plaque installed at the site acknowledges the Lions members whose contributions made the project possible.
The Chaiti Village facility will continue serving the community for years to come. It is a modest structure, but one that quietly makes a meaningful difference—providing shelter, comfort and dignity when they are needed most.
Though modest in scale, the Chaiti Village facility will remain an important community resource, serving families for years to come.
