A Quarter Century of Nurturing Young Minds

Thane North Lions Club, District 3231-A2 marked a proud milestone on September 14, 2025, with the Grand Finale and Prize Distribution Ceremony of its 25th Inter School Competition.

For 25 years, the Inter School Elocution and Peace Poster Competition —conducted in partnership with the Thane North Star Leo Club — has provided a creative platform for students to express themselves through speech and art. What began as a modest effort to engage local schools has grown into an international event that connects young voices across continents.

This year’s celebrations reflected that evolution, both in its global reach and through the launch of a new category: Ideathon (Digital Presentation). The first phase was held online on September 7, followed by the grand finale in Thane a week later.

A Stage, a Canvas, a Screen

  • 65 schools from Thane and Palghar districts participated, with over 400 students showcasing their talents.
  • The Elocution competition reached an international stage, with participants from 10 countries—including Brazil, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Cameroon, Nigeria, the Philippines, Indonesia, and South Africa.
  • The finale drew an in-person audience of over 500, with thousands more joining live on YouTube and Facebook.

25 school principals from Thane were felicitated on the occasion. The celebration was graced by District Governor Trevor Martis; MCC Manish Ladage; Mr. Vilas Padhye, Registrar, Dr. Homi Bhabha State University; and Leo District President Leo-Lion Shivani Shah, among others.

Conceived under the leadership of President Prasad Khopkar, and supported by an investment of ₹5.5 lakhs, the event reaffirmed the club’s long-standing commitment to youth development. Now in its 36th year of service, the Thane North Lions Club continues to leave a meaningful mark on the social, educational, and cultural landscape of its community.
