Cool Relief in Summer’s Heat

Compassion Amid Calamity

Lions Clubs of MD 318 Respond Swiftly During The Wayanad Landslides

The sweltering heat of an Uttar Pradesh summer pressed against the windows of District Women Hospital Agra as mothers cradled newborns and children in poorly ventilated wards. When Chairperson of the U.P. Women Commission Lion Babita Singh Chauhan walked through these corridors during her official visit, she witnessed families enduring the oppressive heat while receiving medical care.

Her careful inspection revealed a gap between excellent medical facilities and basic comfort needs. While the government had provided comprehensive healthcare resources, the mother and child care wards lacked adequate cooling systems. The sight of women and children struggling with the heat during their most vulnerable moments sparked immediate action by Agra Prayas Lions Club, District 321C2. The club donated four large air coolers to transform the hospital environment, creating spaces where healing could happen in comfort rather than distress.

PID Jitendra Singh Chauhan and Second Vice District Governor Ajay Bhargav and Club President Ashu Mittal were present during the handing over ceremony. PID Jitendra Singh Chauhan praised the club’s responsive service and encouraged continued impactful outreach to those in need.

The all-women Shahjahanpur Saheli Lions Club of District 321B1 too sought to provide some ‘cool’ relief by installing water coolers at the Lead Convent School. Club President Padma Gupta used the installation to educate students about the importance of water conservation.

The club extended their cooling mission to Sadar Bazar, installing a public water cooler with maintenance support from National Homeo Hall.

At Vantara Old Age Home, the club installed a washing machine to ease the burden of laundry for elderly residents. Clothes were also donated.

Under mentor Lion Meera Seth’s guidance, the club tackled all three community needs in a single day of service on June 1, 2025.
