Mission Muskaan: 35 Mornings, 19,037 Smiles

For more than a month, members of Bijaynagar Royal Lions Club began each day in a government school—placing notebooks and pens in the hands of students across Bijaynagar and its neighboring villages.

At 8 every morning, while classrooms across Bijaynagar were preparing for another school day, a team of Lions was already at work. Boxes were opened, notebooks arranged and pens readied as rows of students gathered to receive their new learning materials.

This routine continued for 35 consecutive days.

Mission Muskaan, undertaken by Bijaynagar Royal Lions Club, District 3233-E2, in partnership with Kogta Foundation, Jaipur, reached 19,037 students in government schools across Bijaynagar and neighbouring villages. Study materials valued at approximately ₹24.75 lakh were distributed during the initiative.

The project began with a simple understanding: something as ordinary as a notebook or pen can bring genuine excitement at the beginning of an academic session. More importantly, having the right materials allows a student to participate fully in class—from taking notes and completing assignments to putting ideas on paper.

For many families, however, even these basic school supplies add to the expenses that accompany a new term. By taking the materials directly to government schools, Mission Muskaan ensured that thousands of students began their lessons better equipped and ready to learn.

A notebook cannot determine a child’s future, but it can offer a place in which that future is first imagined.

A Commitment Renewed Each Morning

What distinguished the initiative was its continuity. This was not a single distribution program designed to reach a large gathering in one day. For five weeks, club members visited a different school or village every morning. Each visit involved nearly three hours of organizing supplies, meeting students and completing the distribution.

The sustained effort also allowed the Lions to engage directly with the schools and the communities they serve.

Mission Muskaan reflected District Governor Dr. Nishant Jain’s theme for 2026–27, ‘The Flight of Dreams.’ The theme recognizes that children’s aspirations need encouragement as well as opportunity. A notebook cannot determine a child’s future, but it can offer a place in which that future is first imagined, explored and written down.

The happiness visible on the students’ faces gave the project its name. Yet the “muskaan”—the smile—was accompanied by something equally valuable: the reassurance that their education mattered to people beyond their homes and classrooms.

Behind the initiative was a committed club team led by President Kailash Dungarwal that helped carry the project forward, day after day.
