Mulund Lakeside Leo Club puts 500 runners on the streets—and inclusion at the heart of the event
On March 15, 2026, Mulund West in northeastern Mumbai woke up to runners. More than 500 participants set off from Lions Pavilion onto the suburb’s streets for Run For Hope 2026, a 5-km marathon organized by Mulund Lakeside Leo Club, Leo District 3231-A2, in support of cancer warriors. The program included a separate 2-km category that would come to define the event.

Seventy-five children with disabilities took to the course alongside the other participants. Some ran. Some walked. All finished. Their presence gave the event a dimension that extended well beyond fundraising. In an event held for cancer warriors, the children reminded everyone that support often comes from those who understand resilience best. The 2-km category was conducted with the support of Special Olympics Bharat (Maharashtra) and Dharmaveer Anand Dighe Jidd School, Thane.
Months of preparation by Leo volunteers culminated in an event that ran smoothly. Volunteers contributed 126 Leo Hours across planning and execution, while the event was organized at a cost of ₹2.41 lakh.
The morning ended much as it had begun—with people coming together. Medals found their way around eager necks, families lingered for photographs, and every finisher was warmly applauded. Run For Hope 2026 showed that the measure of a community event lies not only in the cause it supports, but also in the people it brings together.
