The Gift of a New Beginning

Compassion Amid Calamity

Lions Clubs of MD 318 Respond Swiftly During The Wayanad Landslides

Shy brides in vibrant red lehengas, grooms proudly wearing turbans, and joyful baraatis dancing through the streets of Rampur—it looked like any regular Indian wedding. But this celebration held a deeper meaning. For twelve families who could never afford such elaborate ceremonies, February 23rd marked a day when dreams became reality through the generosity of Royal Rampur Lions Club, District 321C1.

The morning festivities began at Gandhi Samadhi with Vice District Governors Vinay Sisodia and Aditya Gupta inaugurating the processions. Six decorated buggies carried the grooms while four bands filled the air with music. Local shopkeepers paused their daily routines and stepped out to welcome the baraatis as they made their way to Utsav Palace at Ramlila Ground.

The night before, Lion ladies – along with the relatives of the brides and grooms – had arranged traditional mehendi and haldi ceremonies, ensuring proper observance of the pre-wedding rituals.

Former Minister Shri Shiv Bahadur Saxena welcomed the grooms at Utsav Palace, where 600 family members and 250 community dignitaries gathered. MLA Shri Akash Saxena and Minister Surya Prakash Pal graced the wedding ceremonies with their presence. A wedding feast was served for all the guests.

“These families deserve dignity and joy,” noted Club President Somesh Agarwal. Each couple was gifted all the essentials needed to set up their new home: furniture, appliances, kitchen utensils, clothing, and silver jewelry. Approximately Rs.15 lakhs was spent on the event, which was borne entirely by the club.

This is the second time Royal Rampur Lions Club has successfully organized a community wedding.

Mirzapur Lions Club of District 321E also recently organized a community wedding for twelve couples at Lions School, Lal Diggi Mirzapur. The club gifted the couples household essentials. District Governor B.S. Bagga and Vice District Governors Dr. Arpandhar Dubey and Uday Chandani graced the occasion.
