Calcutta Lyons Range Lions Club Reaches 2,000 Students in Kolaghat
For students of Sulani High School and Gopalnagar Girls High School in Kolaghat, West Bengal, the school day begins with obstacles many children never have to think about — worn-out bags, uniforms that have seen better days, missing textbooks, meals that do not always stretch far enough, and transport costs that many families struggle to afford.
On March 28, 2026, Calcutta Lyons Range Lions Club, District 322B2, arrived in Kolaghat to ease many of those daily challenges. Working in association with Lions Seva Trust of Lyons Range, club members distributed school bags and umbrellas to 2,000 students across both schools, served a nutritious lunch to every child, and installed water coolers and water filtration systems — improvements that will continue to serve both schools for years to come. Between the distribution and lunch came games — the kind that fill a school ground with laughter and make an ordinary Saturday feel like something to remember.
The day carried added significance because of who served alongside the club members. International President A. P. Singh joined the service camp and personally served lunch to the children — a moment that needed no commentary. International Director Raj Kumar Agarwal, International Board Appointee PID Sangeeta Jatia, senior district leaders, and more than 60 Lions also took part, turning a school service project into a gathering of Lions at their most purposeful.
For 2,000 children in rural eastern India, March 28 was not defined by the dignitaries who visited. It was the day they carried a new school bag home.
