Lions Medical Hub: A healthcare lifeline for those in need

When kidney failure demands thrice-weekly dialysis sessions, the mathematics of survival becomes stark. Travel costs, treatment fees, and lost workdays create barriers that can prove as challenging as the medical condition itself. In Pune, this equation has shifted dramatically with the establishment of the Lions Medical Hub.

The Pune Fort Lions Club, District 3234-D2, working with numerous Lions clubs across the region, established the Lions Club of Poona Eye Foundation – a charitable trust – four decades ago to provide free and concessional medical services. With the latest addition of the Lions Medical Hub, initially equipped with eight sophisticated dialysis machines, more than 750 patients receive life-saving treatment every month.

More dialysis machines will be added soon to expand its reach and serve more patients. The Lions Medical Hub also houses a Pathology Laboratory and an Eye Hospital with a modular Operation Theatre, enabling an integrated approach to healthcare.

The total project cost of over Rs.6 crores is partly funded by LCIF. Recent donor recognition ceremonies recognized generous contributions, including machines donated in memory of Jaiprakash Goel, Smt. Shakuntala Dwarkaprasad Bansal, Ramniwas Chetram Bansal, and Tanay Manoj Agarwal. District Governor Vijay Sarda, District Governor Elect Rajesh Agarwal, PID Narendra Bhandari, PDG Rajendra Muchhal, and Coordinator Vijay Dangara joined families in honouring these meaningful tributes.

The district plans to establish two additional centres across the city, extending this lifeline to more communities where regular dialysis treatment can mean the difference between hope and hardship.
