“How do we make recruitment meaningful beyond just numbers?” This is a question that Lions ask themselves. Lions of District 322G seem to have found the right answer.
In a groundbreaking initiative, the district arrived at a solution that went beyond the conventional membership drives. The ‘Scheme for Membership Growth’ is a program designed to strengthen Lions Clubs while making a tangible difference in society. This intertwining of membership growth and community service is most evident in the ‘Bicycles of Hope’ – an initiative that rewards clubs for membership expansion by providing bicycles to underprivileged girls.

The formula is simple but powerful: three new members equals one bicycle, five new members earns two bicycles, and clubs recruiting ten or more members receive five bicycles to distribute. But the real genius lies in how it connects Lions’ dual missions.
New members don’t just sign paperwork—they participate in the distribution ceremonies. Their first Lions experience is witnessing the impact they make.
During the District Installation Ceremony in Guwahati in July 2024, thirty girls received bicycles as Lions members watched their impact unfold in real time. The event, graced by PID Sangeeta Jatia, reinforced the club’s unwavering commitment to service and empowerment. By January 2025, the district had welcomed 141 new members—each connected to the program’s impact from day one.
For the girls receiving bicycles, the program means transformed educational opportunities. For Lions Clubs, it represents a sustainable approach to growth that embodies their core value: service. As District 322G continues expanding this initiative, they offer a powerful blueprint for other Lions communities worldwide—proving that when membership growth and humanitarian service unite, everyone moves forward together.
