Service takes different forms—but at its core, it is often about making space for others. For Jamshedpur Lions Club, District 322A, that idea finds expression in settings as varied as a sports field and a small village on the outskirts of the city.
On February 7 and 8, 2026, the club partnered with the Jharkhand State Paralympics Committee to support the state paralympics in Jamshedpur. Held at the JRD Tata Sports Complex and Mohan Ahuja Badminton Stadium, the event brought together around 150 para-athletes from across Jharkhand, including several who compete at the national level.
Thirteen club members were present across both days, assisting with coordination and spending time with participants. The club also provided T-shirts for officials and committee members, ensuring Lions visibility at the event. More importantly, they took part in recognising every athlete and presenting medals to the winners—moments that acknowledged effort as much as achievement.
The event was guided by the leadership of Purabi Ghosh MJF, President of the Jharkhand Paralympic Committee, along with committee members P. Babu Rao and Nibedita Kar Panigrahi. For the club, the engagement strengthened an ongoing relationship with the para-sports community and affirmed the importance of participation, visibility, and recognition.
While the sports arena brought inclusion into public view, the club’s work in Shilpahari village continues this effort more quietly—creating space for women from tribal communities to build sustainable livelihoods.
Here, the club mentors a women’s self-help group that is part of the ‘Sunahri Jute Bag Kendra’, a production unit set up with CSR support. Members help these entrepreneurs improve product design through art inputs, ensure reliable access to raw materials, and connect them to markets, drawing on the club’s network. Each step is practical, aimed at helping the group move from production to sustained earnings.
Across both initiatives, inclusion has a tangible outcome—whether it is an athlete being recognised, or a woman building a livelihood.
