When hundreds of students gathered at SDM Law College on October 26, they weren’t just attending another career guidance session. They were part of ‘Laksh,’ an initiative by Leo District 317D that turned the often daunting process of career planning into an engaging dialogue between students and industry experts.
“What does it really mean to be a lawyer today?” This was just one of the thought-provoking questions Dr. Tharanath, Principal of SDM Law College, addressed as he painted a picture of legal careers that went beyond courtroom drama. His insights revealed how legal expertise shapes everything from environmental protection to startup innovation.
Healthcare found its voice through Dr. Nandita Shenoy, Dean and Professor at the Kasturba Medical College, Manipal. Dr. Shenoy brought the human side of medicine to the forefront. Rather than just discussing medical school requirements, she shared real stories of how healthcare professionals impact lives daily.
The technology landscape came alive as Dr. Vincent Crasta from St. Joseph Engineering College discussed how engineers are solving real-world challenges. His session moved beyond coding and circuits to explore how technology is reshaping our communities.

What made Laksh different was its interactive approach, where students felt comfortable asking questions they might typically hesitate to voice. Whether it was a student wondering about work-life balance in medicine or another curious about the ethical challenges in technology, every question found its space.
The event, inaugurated by District Governor Bharathi B.M., was more than a career guidance program—it was an inspiring platform to help young minds envision their role in shaping tomorrow’s world. Through these conversations, students began to see careers not just as jobs, but as ways to make meaningful contributions to society.
