Compassion Amid Calamity
Lions Clubs of MD 318 Respond Swiftly During The Wayanad Landslides
From self-defense workshops to sports events that celebrate inclusivity, Leo District 3231-A2 has had an October brimming with impactful initiatives and moments of camaraderie. Here’s a look at some of their outstanding activities.
Project UMANG: Health, Hygiene, Happiness and More!
In Wada, Maharashtra, 133 Leos from 16 clubs joined forces for a day of meaningful connections and lasting impact. Through workshops and activities, Project UMANG provided students with essential resources and life-saving training.
Young women learned self-defense techniques, while students underwent oral health and eye screenings. Children enjoyed a rare treat: burgers lovingly prepared by the Leos. From teaching CPR that could save lives to breaking taboos around menstrual health, these dedicated volunteers touched over 1,800 lives.
Celebrating Service Through Art and Dance
The Lions Service Week finale on October 6 brought together 123 Leos from 21 clubs across District 3231-A2. The event shone a spotlight on creativity with a photography exhibition followed by traditional dance performances. Lions celebrated these young leaders’ talents through an awards ceremony.
Vision to Win 2.0: Celebrating Resilience and Inclusivity
On October 26, 2024, an unusual scene unfolded at the Friends Academy Turf, Mulund. Members of the Mulund Lakeside Leo Club and Bombay Lakeside Lions Club stumbled and navigated with blindfolds, experiencing firsthand the daily challenges faced by the visually impaired. But the real stars were the young visually impaired athletes who showed that limitations are often just invitations to innovate and excel. Through sports, barriers dissolved and perspectives shifted.
Nostalgia Knockout: More Than Just Fun and Games
After the intense October Service, it was time for a well-deserved break to refresh and recharge. Nostalgia Knockout, led by District Chairperson for Sports, Leo Vishal Lahoria on October 27 did just that. The sound of laughter filled the air as 126 Leos hopped in sack races and pulled together in tug-of-war contests. Between the relay races and friendly competitions, something magical happened – teammates became friends, and friends became family.
Lights, Camera, Impact!
Five clubs from District 3231-A2 took their stories to the global stage in the Leo International Day Video Contest. This included Leo Clubs of Thane North Star, Bhiwandi, Chembur Icon, Bombay Vidyavihar and Mohane Titwala. Each club created videos showcasing their commitment to service, leadership, and creativity and proving that sometimes the most powerful way to inspire change is simply by showing others what’s possible.
