Plugged Into the Sun. Learning, Switched On.

Vidyavihar Lions Club brings solar power to a rural school in Palghar

On February 21, 2026, Abhinav English Medium High School in Asangaon village, Palghar district, Maharashtra, added a new source of energy—the sun.

The school serves over 850 students from Classes 1 to 10, many from tribal and underserved communities, and had long worked around an unreliable electricity supply. Lessons paused, routines adjusted, and learning often had to wait. That changed with the inauguration of a solar power system installed by the Vidyavihar Lions Club, District 3231-A2.

Set up at a cost of ₹6.5 lakhs, the system now provides a steady source of energy, allowing classrooms to function without disruption. Beyond reliability, it also introduces students to the idea of sustainable infrastructure—something they will grow up understanding as both practical and necessary. The school is expected to save between ₹20,000 and ₹25,000 each month, resources that can now be directed towards academic needs.

Initiated by Zone Chairperson Nupen Gandhi during his tenure as Club President, the project was carried forward by current Club President Arrpita K. Bhatt, whose focus on education continues to shape the club’s work.

The project was supported by a number of generous donors, with two major contributors. The first was Smt. Ranjanben S. Mehta in Manchester, and the second was PDG Rajnikant Shah.

The occasion brought further commitments to education. PDG Suvidh Sanghvi announced a contribution of ₹11,000 for book distribution to school children. Club Past President Mukund Sheth marked his birthday with a pledge of ₹75,000 under the Child Education Adoption Scheme, while Club Past President Mickin Sheth announced the creation of a dedicated corpus to ensure sustained funding for the education of an identified child.

By helping the school plug into the sun, Vidyavihar Lions Club has brought new energy into its classrooms — and ensured that learning continues without interruption.
