Service, Shaped by Need

On February 6, 2026, when Kakinada Vision Lions Club, District 316B, received the Seva Yagnam Award at the multiple level, it marked more than a moment of recognition. It reflected a pattern of work that has been quietly taking shape across the city—steady, practical, and deeply rooted in everyday needs.

In the port city of Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, this all-women’s club has built its service around both immediate needs and lasting change.

The projects are thoughtfully executed and designed to remain relevant over time. A water purification plant, set up at a cost of ₹1.5 lakh at ZPH (O) School in Ramaraopeta, ensures safe drinking water for students. At the Central Jail, a visitor’s waiting area offers families a more humane space to meet. The club also installed a statue of Mahatma Gandhi here. At an old age home, the addition of railings and benches has made everyday movement safer and more comfortable.

Alongside these are initiatives that focus on self-reliance. At the Vocational Training Centre, around 80 women are trained in tailoring each year. The club supports the program through teacher fees and, importantly, by providing sewing machines to top performers—giving them a way to begin earning on their own.

Global Causes. Local Needs.

Many of the club’s signature activities reflect the global causes of Lions Clubs International while remaining closely tied to local priorities.

As part of a hunger relief initiative, grocery kits are distributed to residents of the Ashram Sravan Home for the Aged and the Nachiketa Avasam Orphanage.

Around 500 saplings have been planted this year, with an eye on a greener city in the years ahead. Health screenings—covering vision, diabetes and dental care—have reached nearly 540 students and elderly residents. The club’s efforts in childhood cancer awareness have also been recognized at the regional level.

Taken together, these are not isolated activities, but a way of working—measured, responsive, and rooted in the community.
