Lions Club Transforms Local Healthcare: A Gift of Hope in Kalol

For Lions, service is the ultimate celebration. Just ask the members of the Kalol Lions Club of District 3232-B4, who chose to commemorate fifty years of service by establishing a state-of-the-art medical hub.

“Our club’s golden jubilee inspired us to reflect on our journey and commit to a legacy of service for our community,” says President Anil Barot, as he describes the inception of the Rohit Mehta Medical Hub in Vardhaman Nagar, a prime location of Kalol, in the Gandhinagar district of Gujarat.

On August 14, 2024, International Second Vice President Mark Lyon and Lyn Lyon inaugurated the Rohit Mehta Medical Hub, bringing the club’s visionary project to life.

Spanning 10,000 square feet, the facility brings high-quality healthcare to local residents. The Umaben Anil Kumar Barot Lions Kidney Dialysis Centre, equipped with four machines and an ICU room, began serving patients immediately, with twelve individuals registering on opening day.

In addition to dialysis, the hub offers cardiac care with advanced diagnostic equipment, physiotherapy, and dedicated eye and dental care facilities. A skilled team of 28 healthcare professionals, including six doctors, 10 nurses, and 12 support staff, ensures seamless operations. Specialists in nephrology, urology, neurology, and nutrition provide rotating consultations, enhancing the range of services.

The facility anticipates serving approximately 100 patients daily in its initial phase. PDG Bharat Rao, who generously donated the Rs. 6 crore building for this medical hub, shares a personal connection to the project. “This centre fulfills my wife Pratima’s dream of accessible healthcare for our community,” he explains. Club President Anil Barot and Uganda-based Miraj Barot also played pivotal roles in bringing this project to fruition.

As the medical hub opens its doors, it marks a new chapter in Kalol’s healthcare story – where advanced medical care becomes not just a privilege for the few, but a reality for the entire community —a Golden Jubilee gift that will keep giving for generations.
